Our Generation is a 2010 documentary film about the struggle of Aboriginal peoples of Australia for their land, culture and freedom.[1]

Our Generation started in response to the Howard Government’s controversial ‘Emergency Intervention’ into Aboriginal communities in Australia’s remote Northern Territory.[2] The film explores how the Kevin Rudd’s 2008 apology for the Stolen Generation did nothing to alter their treatment of Australia’s indigenous population, continuing to undermine their access to basic human rights.[3] The film analyzes Australia’s indigenous relations, from colonisation until the present day. It looks at Australia’s ongoing policies of assimilation, explains the issues underlying Indigenous disadvantage in the country, and upholds the right of First Australians to dignity, culture and empowerment.[4] It looks at the Northern Territory Intervention and the 2007 Little Children are Sacred report.
Our Generation has been labeled “life changing” by popular Australian musician John Butler, while The Burning Season director Cathy Henkel calls it Australia’s very own Inconvenient Truth.[3]
